Description
The “Mist and the Wind” is a lyrical work that offers the perfect soundtrack for contemplating one’s goals and dreams while enduring a resolute trek through nature’s elements, or life’s many trials.
Program Notes
“The Mist and the Wind” is a Grade 2 piece in 4/4 and is in G major. It uses gentle slurs and hooked bowings to help enhance the musical phrasing. There is also a small amount of pizzicato in each part.
I do not wish to describe what thoughts this piece brings to my mind, because I want every player and audience member to discover what the piece stirs in their own imagination. Have your students write their impressions of what the piece “means” to them-it could be a writing assignment if you wish-and send them to me. I would love to read them.
My only performance advice is that when one comes to the optional upper-octave part in the Second Violins, do not have anyone play that part if no one is performing the optional First Violin part at the same spot.
