Description
A mysterious opening leads to a fast and furious work in 3 with “Fate Whispers” by John M. Pasternak. Full of drama and fun harmonies, this work for young band has a lot of teachable moments. We know this one is going to work great!
Program Notes
For hundreds of years, composers have been writing their interpretation of what fate means to them. Beethoven wrote about fate in his “Fifth Symphony” and Tchaikovsky in his “Fourth Symphony.” Mahler went as far as using a Mahler Hammer to portray fate in his Sixth Symphony.
In “Fate Whispers,” I wanted to convey the mystery of fate. Is fate something that controls or even watches over everyone? At the end of the piece (M.104 – end), there are several accented Bass Drum strikes. These should be played as fate giving its final word. Can your group and audience escape the hand of fate?
