This arrangement of a classic Irish folk melody has been brilliantly set by composer/arranger Jack Wilds. Interesting harmonies and rhythmic variations bring a lot of drama and weight to this piece, making it stand out in this grade level. A wonderful new addition to the advancing catalog of wind band music.

Program Notes

“The Foggy Dew” is an old, Irish folk song. The melody seems to have first been composed for the lyrics to a love song. During a brief uprising in the early 20th century, it was repurposed into a revolutionary marching song, which is the form it usually takes when sung today. My treatment of the tune reflects this transformation by shifting through a variety of moods.
