Brent D. Smith
Dr. Brent Smith is Director of Orchestras and Strings at Snow College in Ephraim, Utah. Prior to joining the Snow College faculty in 2004, Dr. Smith taught for several years at the University of Texas Pan American in Edinburg, Texas. As an accomplished string educator Dr. Smith has published articles with American String Teacher and currently serves on the state board of Utah’s chapter of the American String Teachers Association. Dr. Smith became the 2009 Winner of the Texas Orchestra Directors Association’s annual composition contest. His winning work, titled Sacagawea, is published by Wingert-Jones Publications. In 2012 he won the Utah-ASTA composition contest with Bonneville, a piece inspired by the Bonneville Salt Flats.
In 2000, Dr. Smith earned a Doctor of Arts degree in cello performance from the University of Northern Colorado with a secondary focus in music education. He also received a Master of Music degree in cello performance from the University of Miami and a Bachelor of Music degree in music education from Utah State University. Dr. Smith lives in Ephraim with his wife Marcie.
