Laurie Lafferty

Laurie Lafferty, Professor Emeritus at The University of Akron, served as the Music Education Coordinator where she taught wind and percussion method classes, rehearsal techniques, University Band, and graduate core music education classes. A graduate of Baldwin Wallace College, she holds a Master’s degree from Youngstown State University and a Ph.D. from Kent State University. Prior to her appointment at Akron she was an instrumental music teacher in Ohio public schools for 23 years. Her junior high and high school bands consistently received superior ratings at Ohio Music Education Association district and state adjudicated events and performed at local, state, and national conferences.

An active guest conductor and clinician, she is also a member of OMEA where she served on various state committees, held district office, and adjudicated at district and state competitions. Her articles on music education have been published in the Instrumentalist, the Band Director’s Guide, Triad, and Contributions to Music Education. Her ensemble and young band arrangements appear on the contest lists in states around the country.
