Peter Sciaino

PPeter Sciaino (b. 1975) is a composer and educator whose music reflects a commitment to creating meaningful, engaging experiences for musicians of all ages. Drawing on influences from jazz, contemporary styles, and traditional ensemble writing, Peter creates works that balance accessibility and artistic depth while celebrating the creativity and joy of music making.

The creator of United System for Winds and Percussion and Two Chord Jams, Peter’s work explores innovative approaches to music education, including accessible pathways for improvisation, ensemble development, and creative expression. His compositions for band, orchestra and jazz ensemble are now published exclusively by Excelcia Music Publishing, including Wingert-Jones Publications and Kendor Music Publishing.

Peter’s music has been recognized through selections including Bandworld Magazine’s Top 100, J.W. Pepper’s Editors’ Choice, and various state assessment lists. His works have been performed by ensembles throughout the United States and internationally, including performances at events such as The Midwest Clinic. He also serves as a clinician, guest conductor, and commissioned composer.

Peter holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education from Syracuse University and a Master of Arts degree in Music Composition from New York University, where he studied composition and arranging with Jim McNeely and trumpet with Laurie Frink. He has served as an instrumental music educator at Whippany Park High School (NJ) for over 25 years, directing concert band and jazz ensemble, co-directing marching band, and teaching AP Music Theory.

Peter resides in New Jersey with his wife and two children. Outside of composing and teaching, he enjoys collecting jazz on vinyl, exploring small-batch independent coffee roasters, and sharing his love of music with his family.
