Falling Snow in Breaking Light - Peter Terry

Description

Conjuring an image of a radiant street light in a sea of snowy flecks on a cold winter’s night, this beautiful work opens slowly and then twirls around just like the falling snow in a gust of wind. Peter Terry knocked this one out of the park!

Program Notes

Normally, I write a piece and discover the name as I write it. This piece was the reverse. “Snow in Breaking Light” came to me as a title late one night as I sat in my study and noticed the snow falling past the light of a streetlamp. I immediately turned off the interior lights and heard the opening first bars of the piece in my head. The piece is about the magic of the first snowfall of the year, both in its silence and mystery, and in the ecstatic sense of possibilities that the first snow of the year brings.
