Program Notes

Steeped in tradition, the Natick Public Schools “Band Jam” is a joyous and highly anticipated event in the community of Natick, Massachusetts. This musical gala proudly celebrates and showcases each of the NSD bands (grades 5-12), culminating in the “grand finale”, when all come together as one ensemble and perform in striking fashion. Commissioned by the NHS Band, “Anthem for the Modern Age” was written to celebrate that joyous and significant institution fondly known as BAND JAM!

Lively and energetic in nature, the piece typifies the excitement of this spirited occasion. A single rhythmic motif serves as the mainstay and is a prominent component of the music. As tonal colors and styles constantly change, the music sustains intensity and drive from beginning to end.
