Jerry A. West

Jerry West is a native of Waxahachie, Texas. He grew up in Dallas and moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1975. Jerry came from a musical family and received his earliest musical training from his mother on piano while still a toddler. He joined the school band to study clarinet in the fourth grade and also sang in various church choirs. A clarinet major, he completed his Bachelor of Music Education degree at Oklahoma Baptist University and received a master’s degree in conducting from Oklahoma State University. Upon completion of a successful 20-year career as a band director, Jerry decided to study guitar formally at Musician’s Institute in Hollywood. He has written seven sight-reading books, helped develop the Digimet brand of metronomes, plays professionally, and maintains a small studio of private students.
