This new edition represents research combining early editions of the march and historically informed Sousa performance practices. The editor has examined first editions of the march, performance notes of former Sousa Band members, and performance markings in the Sousa Band encore books in the U.S. Marine Band library. Additionally he studied historic recordings of the march including those by the Sousa Band and by former Sousa Band members to create this remarkable, historically accurate publication.
