Description
The winner of the 2008 Texas Orchestra Directors Association composition contest! This American tour de force has shades of Copland mixed with exciting fiddling motives and themes fit for a Hollywood western. The composer describes it: “The Snake River flows through Jackson Hole, Wyoming, and I tried to capture some of its grandeur in the music. The ‘stomp’ comes from the heavy hoedown feel in cut time. It’s written in a rondo form, and its themes have a familiar style that is easy to capture. Students will love the fact that each string part is interesting and unique.”
