Program Notes

“Marches” are an important part of wind band history, and performers at every level of experience should be familiar with the correct style and form. “Silver Dollar” has the elements expected in a march: energetic, syncopated melodies, a minor key low brass section, and contrasting dynamics and styles. Particular attention should be paid to the change in dynamics at M.5, M.30, and pickup notes to M.60. Also, note the stress placed on the second beat of M.60, M.68, and M.73.
